In order to be a leader and actually get people to follow them, one has to be respected. Respect is something that is earned, and there are specific ways that a person should go about their work if they want others to respect them.

Honesty is Important:

A leader is only going to make it so far if they choose to lie rather than be honest about the work that they are doing or the struggles that they are facing. People want to be told the truth, and a leader will gain respect when they are honest with others, even when they are struggling and it is difficult for them to admit to that.

Working Hard is Vital:

If a leader wants others to work hard, they need to be willing to work hard, too. A leader can gain respect by being the hardest-working member of a team and always putting their all into the work that they are doing.

Apologizing Can Help One Be Respected as a Leader:

If a leader messes up, they need to admit that they have done that and ask those they work with to forgive them. A leader should be humble enough to apologize and let those working with them know that they were wrong and will try to do better in the future.

Treating Others with Respect is Important:

No one wants to work for a leader who is going to look down on them or act like they are better than them. Those who work for a leader who treats them with respect will feel appreciated. Such people will respect their leader and want to be more like that person.

A Leader Should Stand Up for Others:

When an employee is being mistreated, a good leader will stand up for them and stop the mistreatment. When a leader hears that something is going on in the workplace that is harming someone on their staff, they should speak up.

A good leader will make sure that they are doing what is right and being honest with all of their team. When a leader tries to do things right, others will see that and will automatically respect them and the way that they work.
